What is a Rajapalayam Dog
The regal movements of the dog is not unlike the trotting of a thoroughbred horse. The dog would attract attention because the smooth milk white coat, the golden eyes and the pinkish nose really make the dog attractive. This dog that hails from India is the handsome and regal looking Rajapalayam Dog, a smaller look alike of the Great Dane. A Rajapalayam Dog has a muscular and strong boned body. The dog has a rather loose skin but no wrinkles and dewlaps are formed. The dog may appear to be rather high and mighty because the head is always carried high.
In India, the Rajapalayam Dog also goes by the name Paleiyakaran and Paligar Hound. This breed of scenthound is believed to have existed since the 17th century. During that time hunting boar is a favorite sport of the aristocracy. The heightened scenting ability, the high prey drive as well as the strength are the reasons why this breed of scenthound is a favored hunting companion of the aristocracy.
