Useful And Essential Facts About Hypoallergenic Dogs

By Ronald Bailey

There is a chance of one contracting diseases when they interact with various animals such as pets and domestic animals. Allergy is one of the risks that can be contracted when one interacts with animals. The coats of many pets, especially cats and dogs cause serious allergic reactions in some people. These animals usually shed fur and hair, which cause the allergic reaction. Here are facts regarding Hypoallergenic dogs.

However, the level of shedding usually varies from one breed of animals to another. Dogs that do not shed their coat or only shed minimally are referred to as being hypoallergenic. Whereas it is not possible to find a breed that is completely allergenic, some breeds shed more of their coats than others. The ones that shed less are hugely marketed as being hypoallergenic.

People who are allergic to the hair shed by canines usually have very limited options when it comes to choosing dog breeds. They are forced to limit their choice to dogs that do not shed their coats even if they do not like the breed. This can be miserable, especially if for example someone likes work canines like Germany shepherds and they are forced to buy a terrier because of their allergy.

One can choose to buy a breed that sheds its coat, but observe certain measures to ensure that the shedding does not cause a lot of effects on the owner. For instance, ensuring that the dog never enters the bedroom or other rooms where one frequents can help to keep their hair out. If the weather is favorable, the pet should be kept outside in a kennel so that it does not bring its dander indoors.

Another alternative is to bath and groom the dog more regularly so as to remove dander and dead hair. In this case, it is preferable to bathe the dog once every week. However, this can be bad for the dog because frequent bathing usually removed essential oils from the body of the dog. Installing carpet-free flooring is also an option. If one must have a carpet, they should shampoo it more regularly.

One should consider acquiring a hypoallergenic breed if the options mentioned above are not appropriate or effective. Some of the hypoallergenic breeds available include Portuguese water dog, Havanese, Brussels griffon, Bichon Frise, Poodle (Miniature, Toy and Standard) and West Highland white terrier. Breeds such as Scottish terrier, Maltese Terrier, Chinese Crested, Labradoodle, Shih Tzu, schnauzer (Miniature and standard) and Cairn terrier are also hypoallergenic.

Prices of these breeds are always inflated by some breeders because the canines do not shed hair. Besides breeders exaggerating prices, non-shedding are just more expensive by nature. The good thing about these canines is that they are available in large supply. This greatly helps to regulate their prices.

Even if one buys one of these canines, it is still advisable to observe measures that minimize dander and hair in the house. The quality of being hypoallergenic makes these breeds very popular today. There are dogs whose popularity is mostly fuelled by the fact that they are non-shedding.
