The Issue With Separation Anxiety For Dogs In Los Angeles

By Christine Young

One of them most common problems that people have with their pets is separation anxiety. Separation anxiety for dogs in Los Angeles can happen for a number of reasons. One can understand that there are many animals who are simply attached to their owners and find it difficult to let go of them.

It is important to take note of this early on because it often becomes a lot worse when they are not noticed and they try harder to get in touch with the owner, who is often oblivious. It can be difficult when the dog is barking and howling while the owner is away all day. They won't be aware of this. However, they will be more aware of this when there are more serious symptoms that they begin to notice.

One also has to realize why the animal has been exposed to this type of behaviour in the first place. It could be that there is a change in their environment. They may have moved quite suddenly. Some dogs would have been adopted from shelters. There could be a new puppy that has been welcomed into the home, and this can have an impact on the older dog.

This is the worst case scenario. However, when you keep an eye out for this, then you will find out more about what to do and it won't be as traumatic. Things to be aware of is whether the animal begins to howl, bark or whether he tries to escape as you leave. There are different types of anxiety that can exist.

They also have to know whether there was a change in circumstances. This can relate to a sudden relocation which can disrupt the routine. Sometimes, there is a new puppy in the home, and this can disrupt things for the dog. Often, it is a person that reminds them of their past trauma.

Some medical problems may seem similar to the symptoms of separation anxiety. For example, the medication that a dog is on can cause anxiety. There are disorders which can cause bladder problems. It is a good idea to have a vet look into the problems beforehand because this will rule out anything else.

There is a solution to this. First of all, the family needs to make sure that they are dealing with this in the right way. There is a right way and a wrong way in which one must talk to the animal. When you scold your best friend, you are increasing the anxiety levels. He can't help what he is feeling, and there needs to be a greater solution to this.

Usually this will work with a dog who has a mild case of anxiety. A dog who has a more severe case of anxiety will need to look into. There are small tricks that can be helpful. Many animals will become anxious when the owner reaches for their car keys or when they begin to get ready. This is something that a person can do more often, but without walking out the door.
