Buying a new puppy can set you back anywhere from five hundred dollars to as much as two and half thousand dollars or more. This of course are the average prices based on demand in different states in the country. Expect to pay much more than this if you want to get a show quality dog, or one that has been born out of champion bloodline parents.

The miniature schnauzer makes a good family pet, although one has to get used to its rambunctiousness. It can also get along with other pets as well, but it can get pretty cheeky with them and you may mistake it for fighting when it is not. As regards other dogs who are strangers and the same gender however, it will be a different story. These dogs will become quite aggressive when against other unfamiliar canines.

This dog is also one of the more intelligent breeds out there, and it is recommended that it be trained. However, it will get bored quite fast, especially if given rote and tedious learning tasks to do, and it will become quite stubborn. It is recommended that it be given short training sessions so as to keep its attention and responsiveness. It is also very important to note that it does not take well to discipline. Disciplining it may lead it to hold a grudge against you for a long time.

This dog is not much of a shedder, as the surface hair is quite wiry. Due to it not shedding so much, people mistakenly think that it is hypoallergenic. Thus there are quite some wrong recommendations by people made to those with asthma to take on this dog. This is a mistaken notion that you should also not follow.

Health issues abound for this breed also and you may have your hands full of vet bills and visits. For a dog they have their share of health issues which can range anywhere from skin conditions, which is quite common for them to bladder stones and heart problems. This breed is also susceptible to early loss of vision due to a genetic order also in some dogs.

Despite the health issues, if they are taken well cared of, they can live anywhere from twelve to fifteen years. Longevity is much affected by a good diet and tender loving care. Thus it is important that you keep it on a strict and healthy diet as prescribed by your vet.

This article has thus shown you some major considerations to mull over before you take on this breed as a pet. Just be sure to always do due diligence in terms of information before you take on any animal as a pet for it takes a lot of commitment and responsibility to be a pet owner.
