Dog paper training tips
Dogs are the most popular choice for a pet as these are great animals to have around. A person wanting to have a dog will be held back by the task of caring for the pet. A pet after all would be a big responsibility. Caring for a dog, especially a puppy is just like caring for a baby as both cannot be left alone for long periods lest they get into trouble.
Potty training is a common concern of pet owners. Training the dog to go potty in the right place is not the responsibility of a breeder. Housebreaking the dog should not be a problem as an owner have several techniques to choose from in training the dog. Paper training is one of the methods by which the dog can be taught to eliminate in the designated place.
Paper training is usually the option of pet owners living in high rise buildings or pet owners that do not have the luxury of staying at home all day to monitor the activities of the pet. To train the dog you have to select a room with an easy to clean floor. A bathroom or a storeroom with a tiled floor would be ideal so that the mess of the dog will be cleaned easily. Place the bed, the food and water bowls as well as the toys in the toys of the dog in the chosen room. Cover about of the area with old newspaper. The bed of the dog must be placed several feet away from the area covered with newspapers as dogs would not eliminate near the place where they sleep.
The untrained dog would poop and pee all over the room thus the pet must be closely monitored at least during the early part of the training. While monitoring the activities of the dog you can stay inside the room to play and bond with the pet. When the dog scratches and sniffs the floor or turns around in circles several time, it is about to eliminate. Take the dog at once and get him to the pile of newspapers. Praise the dog for being good. Dogs want to please their owners and the praise will encourage the dog to eliminate in the same spot again. You will clean the mess but be sure not to remove all the soiled paper so that a bit of the smell of the feces and urine will remain. Dogs tend to eliminate in the same spot where they can smell their excrement.
Pretty easy huh? Actually it is not. The dog has to be constantly supervised before it would use the paper pile on its own.
